Drum & Dance Zurich – How Everything Began

Drum & Dance Zurich is a collective and our mission is to Unite People Through Drumming And Dancing. To do this, we create safe spaces where people can express and connect themselves authentically.

The birth of this idea was the lockdown during the corona pandemic. We, Michel, Greg and Attila, three passionate drummers and founders of Drum & Dance Zurich, saw more than ever the need to share the powerful, joyful and connecting drum rhythms with the world. We felt the darkness and division in the world growing rather than people uniting in times of crisis. Our private jams were our medicine to get us through those challenging times. The drum beats gave us a sense of grounding, a sense of connection, a spark of joy and hope, which was extremely healing. We knew we couldn`t keep that for ourselves.

In the summer of 2021, we decided to bring the energy and magic from our private jam sessions to the streets and people of Zurich. Drum beats go straight to your cells and make you move in a natural way. You can express and liberate yourself, let all the emotions flow through you, shake off what is not needed anymore. Dancing, the same as drumming, elevates your energy, helps you to connect to yourself and others and it puts a smile on your face. So, it was obvious to us to combine the two forces: The first Drum & Dance Zurich event was born.

What was meant to be a one-time guerrilla action on Sechseläutenplatz, has now grown into a professionally organized collective with numerous top drummers and musicians from other genres. We now organize monthly Drum & Dance events, in summer at selected outdoor venues, in winter at selected indoor venues. The mission has stayed the same though: To Unite People Through Drumming And Dancing. 

We are excited to create many more safe, unifying and powerful Drum & Dance Spaces for and with you.
